Three things that happened on June 7th

  • The Lateran Treaty is one of the Lateran Pacts of 1929 or Lateran Accords, three agreements made in 1929 between the Kingdom of Italy and the Holy See, ratified June 7, 1929, ending the “Roman Question”(political dispute between Italian rulers and the Papacy).  It was the political treaty recognizing the full sovereignty of the Holy See in the State of Vatican City, which was thereby established.
  • The 1975 Cricket World Cup (officially called the Prudential Cup), the first edition of the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Cricket World Cup started on 7 June 1975 in England.
  • Muammar Muhammad al-Gaddafi was born on 7 June 1942. Commonly referred to as Colonel Gaddafi, he has been the ruler of Libya since a military coup on 1 September 1969, when he overthrew King Idris and established the Libyan Arab Republic. His 42 years in power make him one of the longest-serving rulers in history.
